Perfect One
That's
ironic because I'm far from perfect.
Actually, I don't believe in perfect people.
Well, except for Christ.
But
I do believe in "perfect" moments.
Like when a newborn is laid in
your arms. Or when you witness a selfless act bestowed on an undeserving person.
Or those experiences where there is absolutely no doubt God is showing off like
a sunrise at the beach. You know what I mean—those times when you can't wrap
your brain around what's happening right in front of you.
Impossible, incredulous,
and unforgettable—
all at the same time.
Wednesday
morning at six a.m. perfection will begin when two men bake turkeys for a free
community meal. Volunteers will show up to decorate a fellowship hall, carve ham
and turkey, and pack fruit bags. Thanksgiving morning, yeast rolls will be set
out to rise, potatoes will be peeled, and desserts will be plated. About 250
meals will be served to our guests and servers.
Pure perfection.
Why?
Not because of the businesses who generously donate, the servers who give their
valuable time, or the Kenny G music being played. Let me say, it's not because of
our efforts.
Perfection
reigns because this dinner was ordained and planted by God into a fertile
heart (Read about Community Dinner Origin Here). And for the last nine years, He's offered opportunities for churches and
businesses to join Him at work.
Only
the Creator of the Universe can produce such an incredible event--zinging with generosity
and laughter—which uniquely touches the lives of our guests and servers. The
results—big smiles, full bellies and joyful hearts.
The Perfect One deserves all the glory.
By
the way, the Hebrew meaning of my name is Palm tree. And given my love of nature, well...that's about perfect.
What
was the last "perfect" moment you witnessed? Have you ever been blown
away watching God show off? Please share!
